I knight was important because of the layout of Medieval society. Basically, The king was on top, and he had lots of land. To much to handle. So, people like Dukes and Barons and Bishops traded military force for land. That way, when the King was in trouble, he could call them, and they would have to help. The knights belonged to the Barons, Dukes and Bishops. Though they weren't that high on a social level, they were important to Medieval society.
the knight was the medieval equivalent of a modern day land lord... they were nobels and allowed the serfs to live on there land under the nobels protection in exchange for work and money. knights also served as army reserves when the area would come under attack they would use their skill to defend the land.
