Adolf Hitler began the Holocaust because he wanted the Jews wiped off the face of Earth. He also wanted other undesirables not wanted in the "master race" because the "Aryans" were perfect blue eyed blonds that were white and fairly tall. Hitler wanted this race to succeed because this was the Germanic and Christianic blood that was only found in "Aryans". He almost succeeded and made his way to victory until Nazi Germany was stopped by the allied forces.

Because he could, there was no significant opposition to it, either domestically or internationally. He had the freedom to do anything that he wanted, though he did push the boundaries of what could be done, he tracked public opinion so as to avert any popular resistance, but as no objection was raised to the anti-Jewish measures that had become increasingly harsh, it was easy to move to the next phase that was the Holocaust.

Hitler believed the Jewish people to be inferior, so he wanted to eradicate the entire Jewish population (in the lands under his control). So as his power increased he became bolder and more vicious towards them, killing millions of Jewish people in his efforts to create what he considered to be a "perfect and pure" race.
