Roman Catholic AnswerLuther's teachings did NOT cause a split in the Catholic Church. Luther's teachings tore many people away from the Church due to the rulers who wanted to be free of constraints they were under in the Catholic Church. When a prince apostatised from the faith, his people better go with him! Luther's teachings did spark the counter-Reformation which caused a flowering of religious vocations, new religious orders, and great fervor in the Catholic people.

Who were victims of earlier expansion movements?

Victims of earlier expansion movements included indigenous populations who faced displacement, violence, and cultural eradication as settlers sought land and resources. In North America, Native American tribes were significantly impacted by European colonization and westward expansion, leading to loss of territory and autonomy. Similarly, in Africa, colonial expansion resulted in the exploitation and subjugation of local communities by European powers. These movements often disregarded the rights and sovereignty of the affected groups, leading to long-lasting social and economic repercussions.

How did Martin Luther feel about the Catholic church?

He wanted to reform corrupt practices and question traditions that seemed without basis..Catholic AnswerM. Luther's thoughts about the Catholic Church are contained in the 95 Theses, an English translation of which I have attached below. As M. Luther was (supposedly) a priest, an Augustinian Friar, and a Theology professor, one could hope that what he thought about the beliefs of the Catholic Church were pretty much what is taught in the Catholic Church throughout history. However, as his "95 Theses" show, he was incredibly ignorant about basic teachings of the faith. Some of what he calls for is totally ludicrous as it is what the Church has always taught - they could come right out of a Theology book. Others are just off the wall. Admittedly, he was calling for refutation of what (he said) others were preaching, but even then, it just doesn't make a lot of sense. He should have known better. What he believed about the Church and what he came to believe about the Church many years later are two completely different things. In the beginning he was calling for a reform of indulgences, which was actually quite sensible giving the goings on back then of some people; however, later in life he completely denies indulgences, or even the power of the keys - something which he held firmly in his earlier years.

The Christians who protested Catholic teachings came to be known as?

Protestants by definition protest some Catholic teachings. The various branches of Protestantism broke away from the Catholic Church in the 1500s. Eastern Orthodox churches broke away earlier after disagreements over doctrine, so could also be said to "protest" some Catholic teachings, although Orthodox and Catholic churches are often said to be "in communion" with each other, which cannot be said of Catholic and Protestant Churches.

Was there an unsuccessful reformation against the catholic church before Martin Luther started one?

Yes, there were earlier attempts to reform the Catholic Church before Martin Luther's movement in 1517. Notable figures include John Wycliffe in the 14th century, who criticized the Church's practices and translated the Bible into English, and Jan Hus in the early 15th century, who advocated for reforms and was ultimately executed for heresy. These movements faced strong opposition and were largely unsuccessful in achieving widespread reform at the time.

Why does the pope head of the Catholic Church have to be over 65 years old?

There are no age restrictions to be pope. In earlier years the Church has had a pope as young as 20 (some say 12).

To what extent did populists continue to focus on grievances of earlier movements?

Oh, dude, populists totally piggybacked on the gripes of earlier movements like it was a free ride at Disneyland. They were all about recycling those complaints and giving them a fresh coat of paint. It's like they saw those old grievances lying around and thought, "Hey, why not dust these off and stir up some trouble?"

Did Aristotle read Buddha's teachings?

There is significant evidence that there was historic contact between India and Greece. This is usually in discussion of Alexander the Great who lives about the same time as Aristotle. Assuming that the Greeks already knew of India before that time there is a good chance that there might have been an earlier cultural or economic exchange. As Buddha had lives some 200 years before these named Greeks there is a significant opportunityr for his teachings to have reached Greece. Aristotle could have been aware or familiar with the teachings.
