The murder of Rasputin has become legend, some of it invented by the very men who killed him, which is why it becomes difficult to discern exactly what happened. It is, however, generally agreed that, on December 16, 1916, having decided that Rasputin's influence over the Tsaritsa had made him a far-too-dangerous threat to the empire, a group of nobles, led by Prince Felix Yusupov and the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich (one of the few Romanov family members to escape the annihilation of the family during the Red Terror), apparently lured Rasputin to the Yusupovs' Moika Palace, where they served him cakes and red wine laced with a massive amount of cyanide. According to legend, Rasputin was unaffected, although Vasily Maklakov had supplied enough poison to kill five men. Conversely, Maria's account asserts that, if her father did eat or drink poison, it was not in the cakes or wine, because, after the attack by Guseva, he had hyperacidity, and avoided anything with sugar. In fact, she expressed doubt that he was poisoned at all.

The story of Rasputin's demise is well known. One night in December 1916, Rasputin was invited by Prince Felix Felixovich Yussupov to visit his palace on the Moika Canal. The pretext was the opportunity for Rasputin to meet Felix's wife, Irina, who was a great beauty and niece of the Tsar. Rasputin wanted to meet Irina and was flattered by Felix's attention. Felix claims he had been nurturing a relationship with Rasputin for a number of years before the invitation, although this relationship has never been fully explained. Felix always portrayed his murder of Rasputin as a political act to save Russia. from- http://www.alexanderpalace.com/2006rasputin/ in other words... Rasputin died on December 1916. :)
On July 30, 1904, a little boy was born to Nicholas and Alexandra called Alexis in memory of the second Romanov tsar, but within months of Alexis' birth the child began to bleed and it could not be stopped. He was the victim of Hemophilia which was inherited from his great-grandmother Queen Victoria. Alexandra tried miracle workers, praying without success and she feared her son (the only male Heir) would die. Fortunately the bleeding would stop for a period of time, but start up again without any warning. When Alexis was a year old and it was close to this time when Rasputin returned to St. Petersburg after a two-year hiatus. Alexandria summoned her to him to see if he could cure Alexis. Rasputin was capable of putting a stop to the Alexis' bleedings. Many people have tried to explain the nature of Rasputin's power over the child. Some have claimed that Rasputin did indeed have holy powers. Others, believe that Rasputin was able to hypnotize Alexis and therefore cause the bleedings to stop. However Rasputin managed to stop Alexis' suffering, the truth of the matter was that he gained Nicholas and Alexandra's undivided support.
