The majority of ancient civilizations developed where water and fertile soil were in abundance. The Nile flooded every year, inundating the land and the lower delta with nutrient rich dirt. An ability to settle in one area and be assured of regular food and safety allows people to specialize; develop language, religion, philosphy, sciences, etc. rather than exist on a subsistance level, hunting and gathering for survival.

These are the bedrocks of a civilization. The Nile Valley & Delta provided the perfect 'storm' of circumstances for civilization to blossom.
