Because the wagons were usually full with people, like women and young children, and they'd rather walk not crowded. Plus if the wagon was too heavy, it could get stuck in mud or holes and the people would have to leave all of their things.

That's why they walked most of the way. Hope my answer was helpful!

Why did people walk most of the way on the Oregon trail?

The Oregon Trail Pioneers were required to have a wagon and certain animals to pull it and a set amount of previsions to make the trip. No one went across the trail alone because of Indians and wild country. The reason so many walked is because the wagon was designed to haul large load. They were rickety without shocks and after a day or two of vibration to a person's body, it felt better to walk. Wagons went very slow with large heavy loads on the trail. Many times a wagon would be driven 5-15 miles in a day. From sun up to sun down. A healthy person was better equipped for such a daily walk, rather then a bumpy ride.

What were Davy Crockett's nicknames?

The popular song has most of them -Crockett, Davy Crockett, KING OF THE WILD FRONTIER. also (Buckskin Buccaneer) which implies something like Piracy, maybe the Trail Blazer. By tjhe way someone incorrectly identified another Western Pioneer, Daniel Boone, with the Oregon Trail., Boone never saw Oregon- he was responsible for (opening up Kentucky) to settlement and was responsible for blazing the trail, so to speak through the Cumberland Gap in l769. Not the Cucumber Gap! He is among the most greatest American who could ever walk this world. Never thoughting of hisself above others.
