the Pequot War
Settlers and Native Americans clashed in the backcountry primarily due to competition for land and resources. As settlers moved westward in search of fertile land for agriculture, they encroached on territories traditionally inhabited by Native American tribes. This led to violent confrontations as Native Americans sought to defend their land, culture, and way of life against the encroaching settlers. Additionally, misunderstandings and differing views on land ownership further exacerbated tensions between the two groups.
The Native Americans were so important in the clash between the French and British because the Native Americans helped the French in the war between the French and British.

The settlers we're invaders to land where the Native Americans had lived for centuries. The English did not respect the people or the land they took. It was also a clash of cultures. When they landed in North America they saw lands without fences or houses so they assumed it didn't belong to others. The English also viewed the Native Americans with vast disrespect for their world, customs, and lives. The Native Americans did what most people would do and that was to fight for their way of life. If aliens came from outer space to earth and landed in your backyard you would fight for your life and ways.

Many settlers believed in Manifest Destiny, viewing westward expansion as a divine right, while Native Americans saw their land and way of life being violently encroached upon. The rise of the Ghost Dance movement among Native Americans, perceived as a threat by U.S. authorities, escalated fears and ultimately resulted in a tragic military response. This clash of perspectives culminated in the massacre, symbolizing the broader conflict over land, culture, and sovereignty.
