Why did the Axis Powers align themselves with Hitler?

So a few short examples:

• The Italians were ruled by a government very similar to the German Nazi Party. So they looked like natural allies.
• The Japanese were involved in a dispute with almost all their neighbors and the USA who were supporting the Allies were enforcing a trade embargo on Japan. So Japan aligned with the Germans.
• The VICHY French were the puppet government installed by the Germans after the Germans invaded and conquered France.
