The Korean War is not really over. While the fighting ended, the war officially never has because no peace treaty has been signed.

The Korean war was caused by communist North Korea invading democratic South Korea, so it's the spread of Communism. The U.S intervened and fought communist Chinese (and Soviet) troops to end the war. So it is a part of the Cold War because it's one of the little occasions that the U.S fought communist troops.

During the Korean War, Chinese people were affected in that so called Volunteers from China were sent to help the North Koreans. The result was the deaths of many Chinese soldiers. The Korean War was just one part of the "Cold War".
