The Klan was based on the idea that the United States was founded by WASP's - White, Anglo-Saxon Protestants, and that the dirty foreigners were all Catholics, primarily the Irish and the Italians, but certainly others as well. They looked upon them as superstitious foreigners that owed allegiance to the Italian pope, not the American way of life.
There were three Ku Klux Klan groups. Republicans were the target of the attacks of the original Ku Klux Klan which formed in 1865. Since Republicans freed the blacks from slavery, blacks wanted to vote Republican, so the use of the Klan by the Democrats kept them in fear of voting. The second and third Klans were hate groups against blacks but also Catholics and Jews.
For starters, it is the Ku Klux Klan, not the Klu Klux Klan. Their goal was the suppression of African American rights and the dominance of so-called White Superiority. The bigotry also included Judaism, and, in some areas, Catholicism, and Latin Americans: basically, anyone who was not White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant.
The Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s expanded its focus beyond just opposing African Americans to include a broader agenda of nativism, targeting immigrants, Catholics, and Jews as well. This era's Klan also embraced a more organized and nationwide presence, capitalizing on the rise of mass media and public rallies to promote its ideology. Additionally, the 1920s Klan sought to influence politics by aligning with mainstream conservative movements and gaining significant political power in various states. In contrast, the Reconstruction-era Klan primarily aimed to suppress Black civil rights and maintain white supremacy in the South.
it is also known as the Ku Klux Klan act.
The name "Ku Klux Klan" was most likely originated from the Greek word "kuklos", meaning circle. Also, "Klan" was considered another version for the word "clan", so the founders of the KKK must have merged these words together to form the name of their organization, "Ku Klux Klan". All together, the name suggests that the KKK is a circle, or band, of brothers.~ Rosalind FraserVisit the link below for more.

The KKK stands for the Ku Klux Klan, also sometimes referred to as the Klan. The KKK was founded in 1865.

Obviously it was not confined to Confederate war vets. It also was nationwide in scope, at least in theory and not confined to the deep South. The scope was expanded to target foreign immigrants, aliens and somewhat oddly, Catholics.
Actually, there were a number of groups the Klan disliked. While they are best known for their racist hatred of black people, the Klan also hated Jews, Catholics, and immigrants-- especially immigrants who had darker skin (people from China, India, etc). Their ideal was the white, Germanic, Protestant Christian.
The Ku Klux Klan limited the rights of African Americans by killing them. The clan also tried to force them back into slavery.
The Ku Klux Klan traditionally was opposed to public drunkeness (during prohibition), womanizing, Jews, Catholics, immoral behavior, immigrants, etc. Over the years, some views have changed, (the Klan now allows membership to Catholics), and others have been added, such as being opposed to homosexuals and child molesters.
The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) consisted of mostly white Conservatives, though they were originally from the Democrat party. They mostly identified as Protestant Christians, and they believed that they were superior to Jews, Catholics and people of African descent. The second Klan (commonly known as the Klan of the 1920s) also strongly supported and defended National Prohibition of alcohol.

The Ku Klux Klan primarily targeted African Americans and Jewish communities, among others. Founded in the aftermath of the Civil War, the Klan sought to maintain white supremacy through intimidation, violence, and terror. Their actions included lynchings, cross burnings, and other forms of racial and religious persecution. Over time, the Klan also directed its hostility toward immigrants and other marginalized groups.
