Britain had been invaded twice by the Romans. The Romans had a long history with what would become its largest island province. Julius Caesar invaded Britain in 55 BC BCE. At the time the Romans had very little knowledge about this place and Caesar would fill that void as best he could. He conducted brief battles in Britain. He may have been drawn there because of its rich iron ore deposits. Caesar also was unhappy with rumours that the Britons had tried to aid the Gauls. He was there again in 54 BC BCE and did find an armed post of the inhabitants. His attention, however, was soon placed again on Gaul. Basically Caesar's invasion of Britain could be characterized as an expedition. Ancient historians say that Caesar almost lost much of his fleet and found the Britons an able force which he cared not to deal with as Gaul was more essential to his goals.
Under the reign of emperor Claudius, Britain was invaded a second time, and in 47 AD CE, Britain was added to the empire. Britain was a source of iron ore, lead, tin, silver, slaves and taxes.
Speaking in terms of "geo political war strategy" having a presence in Britain gave the empire an advantage in dealing with any problems in Gaul. Thus Gaul was surrounded from the South and now to the North.

From the date of the "invasion" of Claudius in 43 AD to the present, it would be 1,967 years ago that the Romans invaded Britain. But this is the official date. The Romans had a presence in Britain long before Claudius.
