The Romans did not settle just in the south east of London. They settled in the whole of England and Wales. They conquered the south of England in 43 and the north in 78. Ancient historians said that the first invasion was a Roman response to a request for help by one of the Celtic kings in Britannia. It is also speculated that that other considerations may have been that some Gaul rebels would seek refuge on the island and that there may also have been an interest in the mines of Britannia.
