Why did the Southerners want slavery?

It was something the Northerners didnt have. * The extreme conditions of the old South would have made it next to impossible to grow and harvest difficult crops such as sugar cane and cotton without the use of slave labor.

People in the south said that they needed slaves because that is how we made our monry the slaves worked and we sold the crops. But if the north would have gave us the south states rights then the south could decide if wanted salves or not but the ferderal government was trying to destroy the south

The northern states were industrializing, offering a great variety of jobs and development opportunities for which it had no lack of takers amongst its own population and the immigrants. The south was mostly agricultural at the time, with cotton being the most important crop and source of income. The work on the cotton fields however was tedious, repetitive and hard and offered little or no opportunity for advancement of any kind.

With the rapid growth of the market for cotton, the equally rapidly growing demand for laborers could never be met locally. Moreover, working the cotton fields had traditionally been a slave occupation, which did nothing for its job appeal. So the only way in which the jobs could be filled was by importing more slaves to do the work.
