USSR had signed an agreement with the US to enter the Pacific war against Japan in order to get land deals (some of Japan's islands) and loans. The US honored most of the agreement even though US decided to drop the bombs. Russia still owns some of these islands. Stalin found out about the A bomb in 1943 and saw the specs from his spies at Los Alamos at this time. He knew about the bomb when he signed the agreement with US. Note: Far earlier than Rosenberg involvement.
