Before theLouisianaPurchasethe French were big on having slaves so when the purchaseoccurredsome of the Frenchdissipated, leaving their slaves behind. Since the slaves had no where to go they just stayed inLouisiana.

The cajuns come from french people living off the coast of Canada in a place called acadia. When the English took over this land, the Acadians were forced to leave acaidia and settle down in Louisiana. (this is were the fictional poem Evangeline comes in) There, they formed themselves into a group they called the cajuns. (short for acadians) and formed their own culture with their own language, religion, flag, dance, and art.

Both Quebec and the Cajuns of Louisiana speak English(today). They also both practiced Roman Catholicism. They were both forced to leave Canada<< similarities. Differences- Cajuns had large isolated families which were called "Bayou communities" ..until 1930.
