The causes of the Latin America fight for freedom after 1790 was due to the liberal constitution that Fernando VII of Spain signed halfheartedly. Latin Americans wanted an excuse to take power and evict their colonizers.
It may not be very accurate to ask if England took over America. England was the reason for the origin of America; the English colonized it (along with a few other nations). During the Revolutionary War however, England did conquer sizable tracts of what is now American land, but otherwise the term "take over" is probably inappropriate.

Spain did establish colonies in the southwest and western regions of North America. Conquistadors were basically soldiers whose job was to take land, find gold, and look for a water route to Asia. With them was always a priest who was to convert the Native Americans that they conquered.
