Why did the eastern woodlands Indian's use weapons?

The people of the Eastern Woodlands used weapons for hunting animals as a source of food, and to protect their colony from others. And if you're now wondering "What did they hunt?" then i have a nice list for you right here:

The types of animals that they hunted depended on the region where they were living and what wildlife was available to them. For example, the coastal people were able to hunt for seals and whales, while the people in the northern regions were unable to do so, but they could hunt for caribou and moose and the coastal people were unable to hunt for caribou and moose.

For the same reason any culture has used weapons.

The two main reasons are for self defense/expansion of power and hunting. When the European invaders came, many Native American tribes began using European weapons (guns) in addition to their traditional weapons. They tried hard to defend the loss of their land, but in the end they were overcome by a combination of European military power and disease.
