Why did they have rationing in World War 2?

Meat.

Bacon.

Tea.

Cheese.

Sugar.

Fish.

Vegables.

Rice.

Canned fruit.

Condensed milk.

Breakfast cereals.

Biscuits.

A packet of soap powder.

One egg.

In many combatant countries essential goods, especially food and clothing, were in short supply. The purpose of rationing by coupon was to avoid rationing by price, which would have caused hardship among many ordinary people. Sugar and gasoline were scarce, so they were rationed to keep people with money from hoarding them or profiteering from selling them at high prices to those who really needed them. I think it was also done to make everybody conscious that there was a war going on and that a total war effort was needed.

In WW2 there was rationing in Britain simply because German U-Boats were destroying food supplies from the USA and so there was of course limited supllies of food in the country. so the Government introduced rationing.

It helped make sure that the troops had the things that they needed to fight. Supplies were limited. In order to fairly distribute the items in short supply, rationing was introduced. That prevented prices from going too high and the rich from being able to corner the market on goods.
