The end of the war did not bring peace to the Greeks, who continued their customary fighting amongst each other in changing alliances. Wars had so reduced Spartan manpower that they could not match the armies of others, and after being leading city-state for 35 years after the Peloponnesian War, it was defeated by Thebes and became a second rate power barely able to control its own territory and a restive serf population.
Sparta didnt have a patron god, a god protector of the city (like Athens had Athena). They worship all 12 gods but they felt closer to Zeus as they consider them descendants of Hercules, son of Zeus.

Well in Sparta, women didnt have much rights but had more freedom than women in Athens so you can say Sparta
Sparta was stronger because they trained for the military more than Athens.

Mt Taygetus and Mt Parnon surrounded the valley in which the Spartans occupied. :)
Athens and Sparta were independent City-States and therefore were not especially close. However, the Greeks did unite to repel foreign invasions. One of the reasons that Sparta and Athens went to war (The peloponnesian war), was because after the city of Athens was destroyed by Persian invaders, the Athenians stole large sums of money from the Delian League to rebuild their city (and also some of their most famous modern wonders, such as the Parthenon), which was a national treasury set up by the primary City-States of Greece. This action enraged the Spartans in particular, and caused the war.
