The American educational system has consistently and historically ignored the black perspective in its textbooks. That leaves American children to not learn about the history outside of the "big 4." This is a total rejection of an entire history and culture that laid the foundation for every era of this country.

Carter G. Woodson saw the need to teach the history of African Americans and he fought and fought until his dream became Negro History Week. Later, the week became Black History Month. The month is to learn and celebrate a very rich history of a strong group of people.

There are some who counteract the Month with the question, "Why can't we have White History Month?" My response is that the other 11 months out of the year White history and culture is studied in depth and radiated from the textbooks and from every other source of media.
