Also naval landing craft used gasoline. Tanks especially got very low gas mileage (usually measured in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon) because of the weight of their armor.
There was still civilian demand for gasoline, but this was severely limited by tight rationing regulations so that the first priority military demand could be met.
