Ok, I am a Deck Officer. I will be serving onboard container ships.

I chose cargo ships as working on these is very hands on, the crew are usually hard working, down to earth, good at working in a team and probably most importantly, are not afraid to get their hands dirty!

In Comparison to cruise liners; I know that lots of (not all) officers on board cruise ships tend to be the opposite of the officers onboard cargo ships.

I think it is better for cadets to be in an environment where you can have some hands on experience on real ships, where responsibility is primarily for the ship and its cargo.

I think that some cadets may see attractions of a modern looking ship, exotic, exciting destinations, and a generally classy life, as a great career. The point is, cargo ships are the world's blood cells, without cargo ships, there would be no such thing as Global Trade. Therefore, if you think about it: working on a container ship is playing a vital part in the efficient, safe and skillful operation of the world's trade and is therefore a more rewarding career.

Certainly everyone has an opinion, this is mine.
