America is often referred to as both a melting pot and a patchwork quilt. The US has had more immigrants come to live there than any other country in the world. The variety of races and ethnic groups is enormous. Some immigrants kept to themselves and did not simulate into American society. Others did. Thus two groups, assimilated ones and not assimilated ones. Either way, the US has been able to absorb its many immigrants as well or better then any other nation of its size.
