Anne Elizabeth Delany was important because of the American history she recorded not just with pen and paper, but with her eyes, hands, and feet. What she saw, touched, and where she walked teaches us a great deal of the life of an extraordinary American. As an African-American, she was witness to the painful experiences, the civil rights achievements and setbacks, and the progression of African-Americans in American history from the turn of the century(1900) to the decade of her death(1990's). She also witnessed and was subjected to discrimination as a woman.
Martin Delany died on 1885-01-24.
