It could be seen as a way of God testing you to see if you really mean it and are truly putting your whole heart into growing closer to Him.
However, it can also be seen as a way of Satan trying to discourage you from trying to grow closer to God, because, as most people know, he isn't too fond of God.
You really just have to tough it out and, most importantly, pray about it. Ask God to help you through these difficult times and show Him that you are completely genuine.

The closer you get to God, the better you begin to know Him, the better you begin to know Him the more you realize just what He expects of you. You begin to realize that Gods standards are far higher than mans, so much more is expected of you.
Gods ways are not mans ways, but His ways are eternal. If we are to in live with Him again; them we must be able to live His eternal ways while we are here upon the earth.
As we live in a carnal state and not a Celestial state, we will at first find that His ways are at times hard to live, this is why we have the Holy Spirit to help and guide us. As we continue to live in accordance with His will, things will not seem so hard, but will become part of our lives.
