The Colosseum was built in stone and concrete. Most big public buildings were built in stone. Walls made in stone are stronger than those made in bricks. Concrete also made it stronger to support this huge structure and meded its construction quicker.
Your thinking of the Flavian Amphitheater or as we call it, the Colosseum. But it's construction was started in 72 AD. it was dedicated in 80 AD and open for business. The finishing touches were added sometime after 82 AD.
