Because they don't like each other, they were fighting over the land until the UK withdrew from its League of Nations Mandate to establish a government for Jewish settlers, and the UN approved the partition plan of 1947. The Arabic Palestinians did not approve of this partition, resulting in more strife and fighting. _________________ The creation of Israel as an independent state in 1948 following the UN's 1947 approval of the Partition Plan was extremely controversial. By then Zionist sentiments and activities had already been taking place for many decades. The League of Nations had given to the UK a mandate to establish a government in Palestine favoring Jewish settlers, but the UK withdrew its interest following irreconcilable differences and conflicts between Jewish and Palestinian factions. The US had nothing directly to do with the disposition of that territory. President Truman happened to be strongly in favor of the state of Israel, but his enthusiasm was not widely shared among other US leaders. In retrospect, it is possible that the way that the partition was conceived and carried out was a monumental catastrophe. This sentiment is not coming from fundamental racism or bigotry. The territory was occupied by Palestinians; it was not open, uninhabited land. Palestine was not organized into what the rest of the world considered a nation. The entire affair could have been handled in an equitable and inclusive way. Instead, we have allowed the region to become a hotbed of strife, war, and bigotry, and for political purposes some western powers have remained indifferent. It is easy to see how people could be convinced, after the Nazi atrocities, that Jewish survivors should have a land of their own, and it is right that such a task was undertaken. It could have, and should have been done MUCH differently. But hindsight is always 20-20. We don't know what it was like to have the mind of the late 1800's through the 1930's 40's and 50's.

What was most responsible for helping Israel to become an independent nation?

The United Nations After World War I, the League of Nations asked Great Britain to govern Palestine. (This land had been taken away from the Ottoman Empire partly because the Ottomans had been Germany's ally during World War I.) But the British had great difficulty ruling the land because Jews and Arabs in Palestine often quarreled with each other. After World War II, the quarrels between Palestinian Jews and Arabs became fierce battles. And to make matters worse for the British, Palestinian Jews and Arabs began to attack them as well. By 1947 the British had had enough. They asked the U.N. to take responsibility for Palestine and end the fighting between the Jews and Arabs.

That's a lie spread by the Arabs. Zionists are people who want Jews to have their own state. Zionists never killed thousands of Palestinians, and never stole their land. Arabs just say that because they are brainwashed as little kids to do bad things to Jews.

What are the Aspects of Jews and Arabs fights?

If you mean why do they fight. The reason is they are fighting over dirt. Abraham was given all of Israel and alot more if you look at what the bible says. The Arabs dispute the fact that the promise went to Isaac and not to Ishmael. Therefore the Jews will fight to the death. Using whatever means necessary to keep their land and the rest of the world should stay out of it.

The Jewish people because it is written in the Torah(the bible) that Israel will belong to the Jews. The Jews and Arabs must live peacefully. How did the Arabs feel when the UN divided Palestine into two states?

Arabs were livid that such a 1947 Partition Plan was passed, because they believed that the land should belong entirely to the Palestinian Arabs. In their view, these were the lands that had physically belonged to the Palestinian Arabs for as long as they could remember and should have been theirs for inheritance. In their minds, it did not make sense that a group of German, Polish, French, English, and Russian speaking people should claim land that their ancestors had not even visited for centuries. Even by the time of Israel's Declaration of Statehood, less than half of the land within the UN proscribed borders of Resolution 181 was owned by Jews. Therefore, the idea of Jewish State taking that land was anger-inducing.
