Because they had survived the harsh winter and were giving thanks to God for helping them survive it.I think they did because they were the Indians made thanksgiving so they decided to do it as well
Puritans
because they had lots of room to plant this specific plant so they did. that's why they had so many stocks of it..
The Pilgrims landed in the future state of Massachusetts on December 1620. So they missed that year's harvest. Thanksgiving was an outgrowth of the widespread celebration of thanks for the harvest throughout many places and times. That celebration therefore was held the following year, in 1621.
yes the pilgrims did want freedom so they could serve God freely
The Indians and the Pilgrams=] When the pilgrims came over here, they had trouble surviving. The indians taught them how to farm corn, and other things. They also taught them ways to hunt, keep warm, etc. So they had a feast with the Indians one day to give thanks for helping them survive through the winter. Hence "Thanks-Giving"
Per James W. Baker, Senior Historian at Plimoth Plantation, "The reason that we have so many myths associated with Thanksgiving is that it is an invented tradition. It doesn't originate in any one event. It is based on the New England puritan Thanksgiving, which is a religious Thanksgiving, and the traditional harvest celebrations of England and New England and maybe other ideas like commemorating the pilgrims. All of these have been gathered together and transformed into something different from the original parts."
Because Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what you have. It originated with the pilgrims and Indians getting together to "give thanks" (thanksgiving) to God.One of the very first Thanksgiving days actually occurred before the arrival of the Pilgrims. This festival was completely religious in nature, and did not involve any feasting. On 4 December 1619, a group of settlers from England arrived at Berkeley Plantation on the James River, now known as Charles City, Virginia. This group dedicated this day of their arrival as a Day of Thanksgiving to God.
Because The pilgrims gave thanks by god letting them come to the new world. So they had a great feast and celebrated.
Thanksgiving is an annual tradition in celebration of the act of giving thanks in a manner of remembering how the Native Americans and the Pilgrims shared a meal after having worked together. That year the Native Americans had shown the Pilgrims how to survive off the land when they first arrived in Plymouth Rock, so it was a rather momentous and celebratory occasion for them.
the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, esp. to God.an expression of thanks, esp. to God.a public celebration in acknowledgment of divine favor or kindness.a day set apart for giving thanks to God.in the dictionary, it is also a Harvest. A time of gathering crops, grain, fruits and veges with thanks. So its like Thanksgiving. (with punkins, etc...) that's what I think.
1620 was an important year for the future of America. This is the year the first pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts from Europe.
The pilgrims gave thanks for the land on which they were granted and that they would never hav it taken away from them. If you've read the witch of blackbird pond, it sort of tell you what they were thankful for. The season of thanksgiving is also a season of taking. It's taking minutes of you're life, but it's a gift because if you're driving home on thanksgiving and you get in a crash, you can always say that you spent the last minutes of your life with your family. i hope i helped a tad bit. The only reason i know about the top peice is because my great great something or rather aunt kept a secret diary and we still have it in the basement.
