Czar Nicholas II moved his family to the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo for several reasons, including its proximity to the capital, St. Petersburg, and its relative seclusion, which provided a more comfortable and private environment for his family. Alexander/Catherine Palace was the main residence of the Tsar and his family. But they did have over twenty palaces and mansion at their disposal, ah the decadence. They lived mainly in Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, Russia (Tsarskoe Selo stands for "Czar's Village." It was yellow and probably one of their smaller palaces. They lived in Livadia Palace and Peterhof Palace over the summer. The Winter Palace (seen in the Disney Movie "Anastasia", used to be the main residence of past Czar's, but Nicholas II was told he could not live there because of security problems.
The Alexander palace, the home of Czar Nicholas and his family, (not to be confused with the Alexandra Palace in London) contained fewer than 260 rooms if one counts the numbered rooms on the 1st, mezzanine and 2nd floor plans (less the numbered hallways and passageways).

He had a 'swimming-pool' or 'Swimming bath' that he enjoyed in the Palace of Alexander and mentioned in his diaries. He even took Aleksey there. The palace of Catherine the Great did have an indoor bathing building and lakes to swim in.
