Why was Hilter so mean?

From what I have heard Hitler was mentally ill and all he wanted to do was hurt people. He thought that killing everyone would make him feel better. His mother's death only made him angrier and he took it all out on the people who didn't fit in his perfect ideal race. because Jewish people where looked at in those time as out casts. they where easy pray for him to blame world war one on. this way he could rise to power in Germany.
