The Directory itself was a transitional and weak institution, with little real support. Two of the five directors ploted the overthrow of the Directory, to allow for a change in the constitution. Napoleon itself had an immense prestige among the troops. He was in command of the French troops "guarding" the Directory on the day of the coup. After the dismissal of the directory, and the exclusion of opposing members of the congress, Napoleon is named as the head of the three-members "consulate". His prestige, the idea that he would restore order and moral order, and end a too troubled period, gave him a great support among the general public.
Napoleon was appointed First Consulate by Sieyles a counter-revolutionist who sought to use Napoleon the war hero as a pawn. Napoleon took advantage of his position and held a coup d'etat making himself consul for life and later emperor. Those who were against the revolution were quick to throw their support behind Napoleon, hoping for restoration of order.
the tyrants were able to seize power from the nobles because they had the help and support of the Greek farmers, merchants, and the artisans.
The Bolsheviks did not seize power during the Russian Civil War. They had already seized governmental power from the Provisional Government in 1917. The civil war is generally figured to have started in 1918. The Bolsheviks managed to retain their power, not seize it, by winning the civil war.
The revolution left a void of power. The king, queen, and many government officials were beheaded and this meant that the government fell and was left without a head of state. When this happens in any government it leaves a means for a man who is powerful to take control. This is what happened with Napoleon. He was a able to step into the power void.
Understand that during this time, the French had gone through the most violent stage of the Revolution before Napoleon came to power. There was mass paranoia and people were being beheaded left and right. You can image the people's relief when Napoleon came to power. This was not the only reason. The French people had recognized his strong leadership and military success. He also dressed simply and therefore the people could relate to him. He was also acquiring lands for France and increasing its empire. His reforms were extremely successful and during his rule there was hardly any unemployment. Prior to this, the French were dealing with a King who was not experienced and was creating more deficit. Napoleon had brought fame and glory to the French. He was as popular and loved as Charlemagne, maybe even more than him. He was able to bring France unity. Under his rule, France emerged as one of the leading European nations. One of the only reasons he did loose power in the end was because he had several surrounding nations that were opposed to him and thus he was exiled. Looking ahead, the only reason his nephew, Louis Napoleon (Napoleon III) was able to gain power was because of his name which showed that, to the French people, Napoleon still remained a beloved figure.
because France had a weak government
Napoleon Bonaparte took advantage of the political and social instability in France. He was able to take power because the French government, The Directory, was corrupt and the French people were not happy with the government.
The people were dmanding an end to the Reign of Terror.

During the time of Napoleon, France's key rival was the United Kingdom, which, for centuries, had been the reigning naval power in Europe. If the British Navy were able to maintain superiority and control of the seas, France would be at a disadvantage in two regards: (1) Britain would be effectively shielded from any possible French amphibious invasion and (2) Britain would be able to ferry soldiers effectively to its beleaguered allies (Napoleon's enemies) on the European mainland.
The coup d'état of the Directory marked the beginning of Napoleon's rule. The Directory was an unstable, corrupt government that Napoleon was able to overthrow. Napoleon then crowned himself emperor of France in 1804 CE.
