William the Conqueror was disliked by his people because:
- He was French (England wanted an English king)
- He tried to put taxes up
- He set fire to peoples homes, animals, farms and tools
- He killed king Harold
- He brought his friends from France and gave them English land for free
- He was most hated by northerners
He was however liked for his battle skills though and his victory at The Battle of Hastings.
