I am pretty sure that the island in the Pacific called Midway was important because it was in the middle of the ocean creating a a naval and airbase where planes could get dispatched in WW2 that was much closer to the Japanese. Meaning that the planes could carry less full and more bombs when attacking. It was a very strategical island to have.
Midway Atoll consist of three Islands, Sand, Eastern and Spit Islands.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked several locations in the Pacific, including Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. However, the island of Midway was not attacked on that day. Midway was strategically important but was not targeted during the initial assault, as the Japanese focused on crippling the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor. The attack on Midway would come later, in June 1942, during the pivotal Battle of Midway.

Midway Island got its name because it is located roughly halfway between North America and Asia, making it a significant midpoint in the Pacific Ocean. The name was officially adopted in 1859 when it was discovered by an American naval officer, Captain N.C. Brooks. The island's strategic location later made it important for military operations, particularly during World War II.
