Slavery in the British Empire is widely condemned for its moral and ethical implications, as it involved the exploitation and dehumanization of millions of people. Some proponents argued that it contributed to economic growth, providing labor for plantations and industries that fueled the empire's wealth. However, these arguments often overlook the immense suffering and human rights violations involved. Ultimately, the legacy of slavery is one of injustice and oppression, and its benefits for the empire are overshadowed by the profound human cost.
It is important to remember that the British Empire gained most of its territories in the 1800's, a time when racism was in almost every civilized nation and culture. It is also important to remember that as time went on, racism faded and life in the Empire got much better. It is also important to know that many good things came from the Empire, as well. Negative effects: Slavery (the natives had enslaved eachother before the British arrived, and slavery was abolished in the early 1800's.)

Slavery in Canada was gradually abolished in the early 19th century due to a combination of factors, including growing anti-slavery movements, legal decisions, and the overall shift towards abolition internationally. As British colonies, Canada followed Britain's lead in abolishing slavery to align with the moral imperative against the institution. The Slavery Abolition Act of 1833 finally abolished slavery throughout the British Empire, including in Canada.

The imperialism that helped force the importation of opium to China by the British empire resulted in nothing "good". The Chinese were exploited, and this only helped to increase imperialism. Never a good thing.

It is hard to imagine Australia as a viable modern nation, if it were not for the British intervention, so it must be accounted as a Good Thing. But Ye Gods, it was corrupt in the early years, with every Governor having to struggle against criminal officials who thought they were untouchable.
