Because the slave states and the free states were two very different sections, and new Acts of Congress were liable to benefit one section at the expense of the other.
After the Mexican war, and the acquisition of new territory, it was getting more difficult to create new slave-states, so Congress was looking more pro-Northern.
So the slave-states felt that their way of life was threatened.

The Emancipation Proclamation was exactly, precisely, what the Confederacy did not want to happen with regard to the issue of slavery. Why on Earth would they stop fighting because of it? Also, slavery was really only one of the issues underlying the War of Northern Aggression (admittedly, it was a pretty big one).

There were two big reasons why the North fought in the Civil War. One was because they wanted to unite the country back together, because the South had formed a new country called the Confederate States of America. The second reason was to end slavery, which was a major issue during that time and the largest cause for the beginning of the Civil War...
To get free labor and for big selling profit. Slavery is still an issue today, even in the USA.
They south was fighting to gain independence. The north was fighting to preserve the union. Slavery was a big issue during the civil war. The southern economy relied on slavery, without it the southern economy would have collapsed. The northern economy was threatened by slavery. After the south began using slaves in factories, the north became increasingly hostile to the south and slavery because southern factories used slave labor which allowed them to produce cheaper goods. The use of slaves in factories threatened northern economy. Many historians believe that this economic threat lead to the civil war.

The differences between the north and south they have different economise. The North relied on industry and technology because of the bad soil so they couldn't farm. The south relied on farming and agriculture because of their Rich soil! Also, because of this big economical difference slavery was an issue. in fact slavery was the biggest issue and was the major cause of the civil war! The south wanted slavery because they were always farming. However, the North had no need for slavery because of their industries. But even though the north didn't need slavery they were against it. They morally believed it was wrong and wanted to end it. The south was not going to give up slavery so tensions rose there for causing big tensions leading to the civil war!
