The Battle of Gettysburg is considered a turning point in the Civil War. Many reasons were suggested, but one of the main reasons was mental. It was General Lee's only hope to win a big victory in Northern territory, but he lost it, and therefore the morale went down. Lee had to go from offensive to defensive.

The so-called War of Northern Aggression is a fairytale dreamed up by someone without common sense.With that said, the Battle of Gettysburg was not a turning point in the US Civil War. Here are the reasons why:

1. The movement into Pennsylvania was recognized even by President Lincoln as a raid, not a penetration;

2. This is so because Lee planned out no supply lines. He certainly wanted to defeat the Army of the Potomac, however, he also planned to return to Virginia, but on his own terms;

3. There was never a culmination point in this battle that would force Lee to surrender;

4. Lee was allowed to escape back to Virginia and revitalize his army to fight again and it did; and

5. Only after the reelection of President Lincoln was even the dawn of the end of the war assured.
