All of the ancient wonders of the world were selected so because they are great pieces of architecture (The Great Pyramid, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon etc.). Colossus of Rhodes was selected because it too was a magnificant piece of architecture. After all, why is anything chosen as anything? Some guy decided it deserved the title, and I think most people would agree that it is a valid choice.
