Hieroglyphs told stories about a Pharaoh's life, or a god's. That tells us what life was like back then, and gives a better representation of Egyptian life.

Hieroglyphics were important because they were the first form of writing which was common or wide spread. This enabled a larger number of people to communicate with one another. It allowed for the Kings laws and rule to be documented in a way that others could read and share. it allowed better business and commerce. A more accurate form of accounting and taxation.

A common language allows the spread of power. Businesses could better understand trade, inventory and rules because of writing. They wrote teaching materials, building plans, formulas for medicine, history, laws and other documents that allowed science to share and expand thoughts and processes.

People who knew how to read and write, scribes, were the most important people in Egypt under royalty. They were the highest paid people in the land because of their ability to communicate well.

It gave Egypt an advantage over other countries because they could now document and refer to history. They could account for and set prices for goods and services more consistently.
