Without Googling ancient Chinese history, I can tell you (I am an educator) that teachers in many cultures were respected in ancient times because they were the keepers of the flame of knowledge and enlightenment. Still are in most cases. Respect is taught by parents. By anyone who has a healthy self-image and understands that smarter does not mean better. But it does mean smarter and as such, is worth our respect, since smarts and innovation move society forward.

Greek teachers educated Cleopatra because she was Greek and all the Ptolemies were educated in the Greek traditions. Which Greek scholars is unknown. Her teachers would have come to her in the palace. This is not to say that she didn't, at some time take a tour of it, but it is highly unlikely that she would have actually studied there.
