The Veterans were badly treated not for political Drama , but for media -caused drama over alleged atrocities committed by military intelligence or a few solidiers AS well as the belief that the war was more concerned with the control of the opium trade then it was over the sovereign rights of a nation and it's people and that nation requested armed assistance.
There was also a popular revelation of the military experimenting with drugs which despite the Flower-Power movements were not viewed lightly in terms of the government deploying state altering substances and still making locally used substances illegal.
