This situation led to a reduced number of settlers arriving in the New World, which strained resources and increased the hardships faced during their first winter. Ultimately, the loss of the second ship meant that the Pilgrims had to rely more heavily on one vessel, which limited their initial plans and increased their vulnerability in the unfamiliar environment.
