The seven prisoners in the Bastille at the time of its storming on July 14, 1789, were largely symbolic of the oppressive regime of King Louis XVI. Among them were political dissidents, individuals accused of sedition, and those imprisoned without trial, reflecting the arbitrary nature of royal authority. Their presence in the fortress contributed to the growing unrest and desire for revolution among the populace, as it represented the abuses of power that fueled the French Revolution. The storming of the Bastille became a powerful symbol of the fight against tyranny and the demand for liberty.
they were imprisoned about 25-30 years before Bastille day. 5 forgers and 2 mentally ill prisoners....lolololol
In 1789, during the storming of the Bastille, there were 7 prisoners. The Bastille represented royal authority and this was exactly what the French people didn't want anymore. Also, it was randomly known there was a lot of gunpowder stored in the Bastille and since the people feared that King Louis XVI was planning a counter revolution, they wanted to arm themselves against the foreign troops that Louis had ordered from abroad. The French saw it as a victory when they freed the 7 prisoners and tore down the Bastille. They conveniently forgot the fact that among them were 4 forgers, 2 lunatics and 1 pedophile.
Other countries don't celebrate this very festive, the French celebrate their national day called Bastille Day. Bastille was actually a castle which a mob attacked in 1789, there were only half a dozen prisoners.
BASTILLE DAY is a holiday on July 14 that celebrates the liberation and destruction of the Bastille, a prison that held ammunition and political prisoners.
No. For 2 reasons: 1) That was not why the mob stormed the Bastille; what they were after was gunpowder, to defend themselves against the King's troops which were reported (but erroneously reported) to be marching on Paris. Freeing prisoners was incidental. 2) Although historically 'victims of royal despotism' went to the Bastille, in fact there were in July 1789 only seven prisoners: four forgers, two lunatics, and a young nobleman locked up by his own family.

To anybody who thought that the aim was to free prisoners, it was disappointing because there were only seven prisoners; but to the vast majority who knew that the purpose of the attack was to obtain gunpowder, it was a resounding success.

The Seizure of the Bastille happened during the French Revolution. Basically, what happened was, the group of revolutionaries in France invaded a fort/prison in Paris known as the Bastille. They invaded it, killed all the guards, and released the prisoners. Some of the prisoners joined the revolutionaries to end the monarchy in France.
On July 14, 1789, Parisian revolutionaries stormed the Bastille to obtain weapons and free the prisoners in the jail part of the building, assuming most of them were political prisoners incarcerated via the King of France's lettres de cachet (incarceration orders). They took hostage and later killed the director of the building. It turned out that the jail contained only seven prisoners, only one of which was a political prisoner and paraded in the streets of Paris as a symbol. The very next day, demolition of the Bastille building started.Bastille Day is the anniversary date of the event.
