there were few established churches on the frontier
The Western Frontier was from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean.
People on the frontier typically wore practical, durable clothing suited for hard labor and varied weather conditions. Men often donned wool or cotton shirts, leather trousers, and sturdy boots, while women wore long dresses made of calico or wool, often layered with aprons. Children’s clothing was similar to adults but adapted for their size, and all garments were usually handmade or patched for longevity. Frontier attire was functional, reflecting the need for mobility and resilience in a challenging environment.

What drew people from the backcountry settlements of the Carolinas and Virginia to the American frontier?
Turner believed that the American frontier was different from the European frontier because the area was free and open. People could easily settle there. This was unlike the European frontier that was protected by the military.

There are "frontier days" in many locations in the USA. They consist of a celebration of the settling of an area, such as Wyoming. In Wyoming, there is an annual "Cheyenne Frontier Days" celebration. The central event is a big rodeo, and there are lots of other things going on. Cheyenne Frontier Days is probably the grandest "frontier days" celebration in the USA. Lots of people. Lots of people from around Wyoming, and lots of people from Colorado (since Cheyenne is near the Colorado border, about 2.5 hours north of Denver).
A settler in a frontier country is a pioneer who has decided to take up residence in a new land. Many of the people who went west in the new United States were this type of people.
