Color was different for the people of the middle ages than it is for today. First, they didn't have all the different shades of color we do and the colors they did have were pretty basic. Color was made out of natural sources in the middle ages, so if you wanted a color of blue the person making it had to have a formula for taking a combination of things to make the color blue. The meanings of certain colors were also different. People of rank could wear more color and brighter colors. It became against the law for the common man to wear red or purple.
Red symbolised loyalty.
Purple (Indigo) represented royalty- specially used for the royal family-.
