Vulcain is a well respected swiss watchmaking manufacturer, located in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the very capital of the swiss watch making industry, right in the Jura Mountains. Vulcain was founded in 1858 by Maurice Ditisheim and after producing pocket watches, like most manufacturers at the time, they soon started making wrist watches. With the "Vulcain Cricket" they produced the first mechanical wrist-watch with an integrated alarm-clock, which was nicknamed "the presidential watch", since it was worn by Harry S. Truman, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. The "Vulcain Centenary" is a very nice wrist-watch with an automatic caliber, which means, the clockwork's main spring winds itself up automatically by a so called "rotor", a small eccentric weight, which turns on a pivot. It is a very beautiful watch with a design typical for the early 70ies. The case or body is made from stainless steel, some models were also gold-plated.
