Nero had several accomplishments that were not appreciated or were under appreciated in his time. Although he did some negative things like killing two of his wives and his mother, (mamma would have done the same to him if given the chance), his creative mind and interest in technology balanced the negativity. He was the first emperor to give the public an imperial bath. His appearances on the stage and in the arena endeared him to the public. After the great fire that swept Rome, he opened his estates and gardens to the homeless and fed them at his own expense. He rebuilt the city with wide streets and all buildings had to have fireproof fronts -- even his critics praised him for this. His Golden House was a masterpiece of innovation, he invented the first eyeglasses which were also possibly sunglasses, He brokered a peace with Armenia and through his generals Cordoba and Vespasian put down two revolts. He began a canal across the isthmus of Corinth and had plans for a waterway to connect Rome and Naples.
