What were the calpull?
Calpulli were the fundamental social and organizational units in Aztec society, functioning as groups of extended families or clans. Each calpulli managed its own land, resources, and irrigation systems, and they were responsible for education, religious ceremonies, and local governance within their communities. Members of a calpulli shared agricultural duties and were often involved in trade and tribute collection. This structure played a crucial role in the social and economic life of the Aztec Empire.
