Not sure if this will answer your question, but I'll give it a shot. It's less about the fact that is is coal and more about the fact that coal gives off heat. When coal was first being used as a heat source, it was cheaper than wood and there was a lot of it. So really the origin of the energy is in the heat that the coal generates when on fire and less about the coal itself.
how has coal mining changed over time
Coal is formed from plants, which turned into peat, then lignite, then coal.
commmpical bias
I believe it was during the Permian and Pennsylvanian eras.
Carbon in coal is oxidized to form carbon dioxide gas when coal is burned.
Coal begins to form in a humid and warm climate where organic matter, such as dead plants, accumulates in oxygen-poor environments like swamps and wetlands. Over time, the organic matter gets buried and undergoes transformation into peat, then lignite, and finally coal through a process known as coalification.
# WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON FORM OF COAL IN Pennsylvania?
anthracite coal is the metamorphic form of bituminous coal which is the sedimentary form. in other words it has been heated under pressure.
Carbon in coal is oxidized to form carbon dioxide when coal undergoes combustion.
Amongst coal varieties, anthracite is the purest form. It contains about 94 - 95% of carbon.
it can be sedimentary rocks
Lignite is a form of soft, brownish-colored coal that is often referred to as brown coal. It is one of the lower-ranked types of coal in terms of carbon content and energy output.
Anthracite is a form of coal, coal is primary carbon, and carbon is black.
