In the 1400s, Europeans began exploring due to advancements in navigation technology, such as the astrolabe and improved ship designs like the caravel, which allowed for longer sea voyages. The desire for new trade routes to access spices and luxury goods from Asia, particularly after the fall of Constantinople, also motivated exploration. Additionally, the rise of strong centralized monarchies provided the financial backing and political support necessary for exploration ventures.
In the 1400s, Europeans, particularly the Portuguese and Spanish, began exploring new maritime routes, leading to the discovery of the West African coast and the Atlantic islands such as Madeira and the Azores. Christopher Columbus's voyage in 1492 resulted in the European discovery of the Americas, which opened up new territories and trade opportunities. This period marked the beginning of significant global exploration and the eventual colonization of various regions. Additionally, advancements in navigation and shipbuilding facilitated these explorations.
Sugar and Slavery. Europeans learned about the cultivation and processing of sugarcane from the Muslims during the 1100s. The introduction of sugarcane changed the diet of Europeans, who had formerly used honey and fruit pieces to sweeten their foods. Demand for sugar began to rise steadily. Eventually about 20 percent of all calories consumed in Europe came from sugar. Europeans set up sugar plantations on the Mediterranean islands of Cyprus and Sicily. These locations, unlike most of Europe, provided the specific climate and type of soil sugarcane needs to grow well. Sugarcane cultivation requires heavy manual labor. the cane is tough and thick and has to be chopped down using heavy knifes. A huge amount of sugarcane has to be cut to produce a pound of sugar. Consequently, plantation owners needed a large labor force. To get people to do the work, they either had to pay very high wages or find a way to force people to do their work without paying them. As a result, the introduction of sugarcane farming encouraged Europeans to use enslaved workers and to enter into the slave trade.
Slavery began to be practiced in Africa.

For the most part, Europeans began exploring because of the necessity of trade. A rise of the middle class on that continent made certain hard to get items rise in demand.
Europeans wanted to find a waterway passage to Asia after the trade routes became taxed. They didn't find one but instead found the New World or the Americas. After this find they began exploring the New Land in search of gold, silver, vegetables, and other items they might be able to trade. They also explored the unknown to find Native Americans and trade with them. Also, to set up plantation settlements and colony settlements.
People first arrived in America from Eurasia a minimum of 12,000 years ago and became what we nowadays call the Native Americans. In the 1400s Europeans discovered America and began exploring South America and islands off it's coast. Spaniards were the first to settle in the new land, then came the French and English.

The main reason Europeans were exploring was that they were looking for a new trade route to the far east. They began exploring the North American continent in the hopes of finding things to take back and trade.
Amundsen began exploring at the age of 21.
