In 1946, a governmental scheme was set up for 'New Towns', which were to consist greenbelt and houses for London Commuters, which included Crawley, Basildon, Milton Keynes and Stevenage.

Remember, Crawley was just a village as was Ifield and Three Bridges, hence the three railway stations. Schools such as Hazelwick accommodated for large amounts of students and employers set up.
